The Art of Taekwon-do

Taekwon-do is an art of self-defense whose techniques come largely from the ancient Korean martial art of Taek-kyon, the origins of which date back about 1,300 years.  The system of Taekwon-do in its present form was formally introduced in 1955.

Taekwon-do made its debut outside of Korea in the mid-1960’s, when its effectiveness in actual hand-to-hand combat was proven and made famous on the battlegrounds of Vietnam. Since then, Taekwon-do’s popularity has grown rapidly, and it is now the most practiced martial art in the world.

The Jae H. Kim Taekwon-Do Institute was founded in 1974. The institute has been producing outstanding black belts in the Greater Boston area since then, including a number of national champions. Grandmaster J. H. Kim still teaches daily at the institute, along with internationally certified instructors from both USA and Korea.
